Taiwan is currently facing the aftermath of a powerful earthquake that struck its eastern coast, resulting in significant devastation and loss. With a magnitude of 7.4, the quake originated near Hualien city and reverberated as far as the capital, Taipei.

Adding to the chaos were landslides along the coastline, further complicating rescue efforts and trapping numerous individuals in collapsed tunnels and mountainous terrain.
Despite the challenges posed by the rugged landscape and communication difficulties, rescue teams are working tirelessly to reach those in need. In Hualien's Jinwen and Qingshui tunnels alone, 77 people await rescue, uncertain about access to basic necessities such as food and water.
The capital city of Taipei also felt the tremors, experiencing collapsed structures, evacuations, and widespread power and internet outages. For many residents, this earthquake stands as one of the most intense in recent memory, underscoring the vulnerability of the region to seismic activity.
In the face of adversity, President Tsai Ing-wen has reaffirmed the government's commitment to providing accurate information and swift assistance to affected communities. While offers of aid from allies like Japan and Paraguay have been received, tensions with China have complicated international cooperation efforts.
